Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA)

Enacted in 1990, the Native American Grave Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) safeguards the cultural resources of indigenous peoples, including such resources as human remains and associated funerary objects. NAGPRA contains provisions regarding the ownership of cultural resources, the repatriation of these resources to tribal descendants, and a prohibition on trafficking in these resources.

Association on American Indian Affairs NAGPRA - AAIA played an integral part in the enactment of the NAGPRA in 1990.
